25. 07. 2014 -

Hallo Ingo,
I was informed that Theo Kuijpers died yesterday. He was fighting against Leukemia since more than 10 years (and looking at what he has been able to complete during these 10 years is amazing.Theo was a Deutschlandlauf 2005 and Trans Europe 2009 Finisher and also a Transe Gaule 2004, 2008 & 2010 Finisher. At Transe Gaule 2006, just out from a chemiotherapy only a few days before start, he DNF’d during stage 2 because of stomach problems caused by pills but then he could resume his race as soon as the next day and finally he could complete the 16 final stages to the end. Last year Theo registered for his 5th Transe Gaule but he could not participate because doctors asked him to undergo for a spinal cord transplant without delay. DUV let us know that Theo also participated in Spreelauf 2002 and Isarrun 2004 & 2007.
http://statistik.d-u-v.org/getresultperson.php?runner=3507
Theo was the very good friend of Dutch fellow runners Regina Van Geene, Jos Broersen and Jan Nabuurs and the four often traveled together to different races. In France we used to call them “Les Quatre Mousquetaires” (Die Vier Musketiere).  Today Les 4 Mousquetaires stay only 3... Below is the yesterday message from his friend Jos Broersen announcing his death. So sad news. Cremation is next wednesday at Venray.

28. 01. 2013 - News from Ingo

The year 2012 was for me a very beautiful and successful year. It was also the final farewell to Europe runs. In March, my new book "TranseuropaLauf 2012" will be ready. Ingo have another plans? So completely I cannot help it. From 24 on to 29. August 2014, it will therefore reflect a "running Spree" (Spree is a river. The competition goes from BERLIN to EIBAU). What a plan more for 2013? Running? No! I but I have a dream: I want to go for EIGHT weeks as a passenger on a container ship!

02. 08. 2012 - Trans-Europe Footrace 2012 – Two Week Countdown

News from the French multiday runner and race director extraordinaire, Jean-Benoit Jaouen on the upcoming Trans-Europe Footrace 2012.
Well that’s it, here we are in August. On the still warm ashes of the London Olympics, the “Trans Europe Footrace” will start on the 19th of this month in Skagen -  a small fishing port located in the far north of Denmark, at the confluence of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, which will be the starting point of a 4176 km race which will end, hopefully, in the Strait of Gibraltar. Once transferred “from sea to sea” …
This transcontinental race, the third organized by the Germans in Europe, travels 1330 km through France September 10th to 30th, stages no’s. 23-43. The mid-point will be located at the end of the 30th stage in the village of Montlevicq (Indre) and the next day the caravan will stop in St-Sulpice les Feuilles (Haute-Vienne) from where the layout of the course will follow the Transe Gaul route for 8 stages visiting the Creuse, Correze, Cantal, Aveyron to St-Pons-de-Thomières (Hérault) before turning to the Pyrenees and the Col d’Ares, then straight ahead for the final sprint across Spain until the finish line drawn at the foot of the rock of Gibraltar.
Fifty-one runners (1 + scooter) aged 37-77 years and representing 10 nations are registered for the test and the Japanese will be the largest group with 18 representatives. When they go to France, the survivors of the first third of the race will already have in the legs 1542 km and, among them the French riders will surely be delighted to receive the visit of these stages at home.
The UK’s only competitor is Neil Bryant from Bristol and we will be following his 64 day journey.
There is an opportunity for visitors to register for one or more stages enjoying the support of the organization (refreshments, dinner, accommodation, transport luggage) which costs 70 € per stage (contact the Race Director Ingo Schulze, ultralauf @ ischulze. de).

02. 08. 2012 - TransEurope-FootRace Jean-Benoit Jaouen, France

29. 07. 2012 - 2.500.000 Visitors at the webside TE-FR

Today, 12:09 clock precisely, we have reached the 2.5 million million mark. Just imagine: Since 11.03.2001 we have 2.5 million visitors to the website www.transeurope-footrace.org! This represents a monthly average of 19,500 visitors! Of course, in normal months, it is precisely 3-5000 visitors a month. During the race in 2003 and 2009, we came up with over 10,000 visitors DAILY! We will look after the TE-FR 2012? Is it possible to place bets? I'm going for more than 4 million!

10. 07. 2011 - Good bye Alain

"Very sad to have to announce that Alain Lemarchand (*€) has passed away on July 5th. Alain was a Finisher of Transe Gaule 2005 during which he ran the full distance from start line to finish line together with Christophe Midelet*, his running twin brother. Also a Trans Europe 2009 Finisher, Alain ran 63 of the 64 stages from Bari to North Cape together with Roger Warenghem*€, having long friendly days side by side. Obviously for this kind of man, friendship was always the main thing to take care of, even when running or competing.

03. 05. 2011 - Borderland Film Festival

On 29th of April Joachim Hauser and I got invited to the »Grenzland-Filmtagen« (»Borderland Film Festival«) that take place in Selb. The information concerning this event was posted on the TE-FR website under the header NEWS and were at the same time an invitation for everyone who'd like to join. Ullrich Zach and his wife took the opportunity and Thomas Wimmer announced his coming for the next day. Selb is a village of 16.000 inhabitants, belongs to the district of Wunsiedel which is in a hilly area called Fichtelgebirge and close to the Czech border.
After a reception with sparkling wine and some nice conservation we enjoyed a movie with the title »I want to run - das härteste Rennen der Welt« (»I want to run - the hardest race of the world«). The film was very impressive and was shown as a documentary of 90 minutes lengths. The main protagonists were Achim Heukemes, Stephane Pelissier, Robert Wimmer, Elke Streicher, Joachim Hauser. Hiroko Okiyama, Andreas Falk and Mattias Bramstang. Director was Achim Michael Hasenberg, who also had responsibility for the script. Camera: Christoph Rose, cut and editing: Andrea Neese, sound and music: Nikodemus Gollnau and Takis Christos Sariannidis.
If you are interested you can find more information here: www.filmband.de/wtr. The movie is going to be brought to the market and we hope - no, we are convinced! - that one or more TV-stations will be interested. After that there should be a DVD, that could be purchased. If you can't wait and are already interested in the DVD,  you can already register for it here: info@filmband.de or christoph.rose@filmband.de.
Again to the movie itself: From my point of view it was very authentic, and the protagonists were full of fairness and respect in what they said about the other contestants and the race. All in all the film was awe-inspiring and brought back the memories - especially of the last two very unforgettable days. Even in the theatre I started to shiver! The howling of the wind, how the participants tried to protect themselves from the cold, the rain jackets that were blowing in the wind, the reindeers and the snow patches. It came to my mind that on that particular day I even kept my car window shut and instead turned the heating up.

05. 04. 2011 - Change of name of the »TE-FR« and deletion of logo

Because of a forthcoming lawsuit with my former partner of the »TE-FR 2009« the name from the race will be changed from »TransEurope-FootRace« into just »Transeurope«. In addition to this the logo will be deleted, too. It has to be established legally whether there is a chance to confound the logo from the »TE-FR 09« with the one from »TE 12«. Actually there might be a chance that they resemble each other a tiny bit, but I doubt that with this I have rendered myself liable ro prosecution. Although my former partner has been - in connection with the »TE-FR 2009« - sentenced to an imprisonment of 1 year with a 3 year probation, it seems that now he wants to get back at me. A pity, cause until now the »TE-FR 2012« has been a great success. Unfortunately my former partner has already been causing me lots of damage and it appears that he doesn't want to stop doing it ... So - in 2012 it will be Ingo on his own - no partner - , together with his well-tried crew ...

Dear JB
We are safe and all right. Too our parents. But my husband' sister, cousin and aunt live an area that was hit by a great earthquake and earthquake sea wave. We can't contact with them yet. Very worry. Tokyo was an earthquake with a seismic intensity 4. I was on the 5 floor of the building at the earthquake. The building was shaking big and continued a few minutes. I was terrible and scared. In Sanriku area, Ibaragi area is catastrophic damage. Now, After Shock (earthquake after great earthquake) continues frequently. Many house were destroyed and there were heavy casualties. A nuclear plant explosion event happened. Our heart is pained. We pray for the relief and the revival with early moment.
With kind regards
Hiroko

Dear Ingo
Thank you very much for your heart-warming mail. We are safe. It was catastrophic damage in the region where damage was large. Over 1000 dead body were discovered along the coast today. We sorrow a lot by the dead. To tell the truth, my husband's sister, cousin and aunt live this area. We can't contact with them still now. We pray. The nuclear plant explodes by earthquake; it became a very serious problem. (Radioactivity) We pray for this crisis to be got over. Still now, aftershock (earthquake) continues frequently. As it is an electric power shortage, the plan blackout start from tomorrow each area. (3 hours) Our Japanese believe to overcome from national crisis.

25. 02. 2011 - Kenji Hara

Kenji Hara, who participated in the TE-FR 03 and already enrolled in the TE-FR 2012 has passed away on February 17th at the age of 65. He suffered a heart attack. To the participants of the TE-FR he was known as an even-tempered and pleasant runner. With his knowledge in English he very often helped the organizers in communicating with the Japanese participants. I have received the news with dismay and would like to express my condolences and my deep sympathy to his family.

The bestStatements I feel good:
- "The rule that 'if there is pain, you should stop running' is not always correct," Dr. Schütz said.
- MRI scans also showed a reduction of more than 5% of brain volume during the course of the study, Schütz said. The main loss of volume was in the region of the brain where areas of optical associations are located, but subjects tested later found their brains had gone back to normal. Schütz said this could have been because the course went through a forest for four weeks of the race.

In the national language it’s called NORDKAPP. We were very successful and we look now on the bright side of the TE-FR. One was very obliging, which facilitated our work. How does it look like? It is not really warm. We had cloudy skies and about 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. Today, 22. June seems almost summer like with already10 degrees. The vegetation seemed as in high mountains or as January in Germany. In a Mail to participants and supporter I described the last two stages. I gladly pass these information on also to interested one. Joachim Barthelmann has completed the exploration of the route. He has calculated a distance of exactly 4487,4 kilometers or 2788,4 miles. We also took a lot of pictures of the North. Sebastian will upload them to the homepage of the TE-FR soon. Participants and supporters should bear in mind warm clothes beside mosquito repellent / protection/ prevention.

Homepage - Information meeting TransEurope-FootRace run 2009

For November 17. Ingo had invited runners to the 1st information meeting in Horb for the "TransEurope- FootRace 2009" where 39 people showed up. Amongst them were Joachim Hauser, Franz Häusler, Hans-Jürgen Schlotter and Robert Wimmer, four finishers of the 2003 TE-FR from Lisbon to Moscow. A few pre-registered runners for the 2009 TE-FR came from as far away as Sweden, Bremen, Holland and Berlin.

Into the three hours of official business Ingo packed lots of information such as his intimate knowledge of "shoe & sock" experience. Joachim Barthelmann as the route master explained the routing and Robert Wimmer as the 2003 winner explained about his physiological preparation for the 2003 TE-FR. One of the shortest stages will be run after the crossing from Kiel (Germany) to Goeteburg (Sweden) and one of the longest will be the one next to the last stage, with 90 km to be run in unlit tunnels. Joachim Barthelmann said at one stage in Sweden he went a total of 47 km without seeing a bit of civilisation, 47 km only endless, none-feature stretches. These stages will create a physiological challenge for runners, but here they can almost "smell" the finish line.

One of the so far unsolved problems will be the discard/disposal of used paper cups. Upon closer inspection it seems we won't be able to avoid getting about 30,000 paper cups and the eventual discard after their use. Ingo and team are debating of usage of  multi-use cups, which then will have to be rewashed. If anyone has another brilliant, conservation-friendly idea, Ingo would love to hear about it.

This time Ingo has created a company together with the Horb "promoter"  Karl-Heinz Neff to market the 2009 "TE-FR" Mr. Neff, together with a marketing firm will lead the marketing effort. The search for eventual sponsors is still in full swing of how to transfer Ingos "Adventure TR-FR" to an event.

05. 07. 2007 - Joachim and Brigitte back from scouting strip

Joachim and Brigitte Barthelmann are back home from their scouting trip. They discover the route from the 26 th stage till North Cape. The 33rd stage ends at Kiel. The ferry leaves at 7pm and arrives in Göteborg at 9 in the morning. We take care that the stages till and from the ferry will be short. From here on begins an area of forest and lakes, which helps leaving the strain behind. Or not! An elk or reindeer might come across and behind the polar circle the days become long and lonely. There’s no romantic sunset. Europe ends at the steep coast of the North Cape. The second part from Bari to the 25th stage will be discovered in mai 2008. The whole distance will be relative exactly 4500km. this would match a daily route of 70km. we recommend something against mosquitoes. Gällivare is in the region contaminated with the most mosquitoes in Sweden. People were measuring up to 3300 mosquitoes per square meter at the border of the Sjauna Moor. Since 2003 exists a museum for mosquitoes.
